Your chance to sponsor the August Festivities
Wed 1st Sep 2010, 21:40
Philip Haines, of Petersfield Events, one of the organizers of the Festivities, explains why he and others are stepping down. The search is now on for new organizers.
Your Town Needs You!
Philip says: “Over the last three years and seven events (four Festivities and three Local Food Festivals) Petersfield Events, a volunteer group generously funded by the local business community, has raised thousands of pounds for charity and provided fun and entertainment for the people of Petersfield.
“This has been done without cost to the taxpayer, and indeed has provided additional revenue to East Hampshire District Council. Unfortunately those costs are now unsustainable, and so we have therefore decided not to continue organizing the events.
“We would encourage everyone to support the many other venues, arts and entertainment groups in Petersfield, making it the special place it is. If anyone would like to come forward to organise these events in the future please contact Petersfield Events.

Gareth Gammon, MD of Navigate Design, explains the virtues of sponsorship, and why he is proud that Petersfield First Friday – the business networking organization – supports the local community. First Friday have stepped up as the main sponsors of the town’s two-day August Bank Holiday Festivities this year, and, they hope in 2011.Gareth, a founder of First Friday seven years ago, says: “Petersfield is a vibrant, go-ahead place, even in these difficult times, and the business community is delighted to sponsor the August Festivities through First Friday, celebrating life in our great town.
“Petersfield came into prominence as a market town, and now in the 21st century a vibrant local economy is still just as important to quality of local life. To see the Square being used for trade and events, festivals and markets is so important, and the First Friday business network is pleased to support Petersfield Events and all the organizers of the August Festivities.
“Promoting great local events is a good way for a business or organization to back the community and keep its name in the public eye.”
The joint organizers of First Friday are: Gareth (Navigate Design); Mike Kirby (Antrobus Accountants); and Mary Ashardi (The Folly Wine Bar, upstairs). They are supported by Charlotte Oldham, Samantha Small and Roger Petch (Mackarness & Lunt), Giles Cleverly (Syn-Star), and Joy Bardon (associate partner at St James Wealth Management).
